Sunday 27th August 2017

Afternoon:

14:00 – 17:00 Kayaking in Cork 

The team-building Kayaking activity will depart from Lapp’s Quay in the heart of the city. The trip will take in scenic views including the new, state of the art, Paírc Uí Chaoimh with beautiful views of the North and South side of the city. Delegates will stop for lunch in Blackrock Village, a small old fishing village, before returning to Lapp’s Quay.

Evening:

19:00 – 21:00 Early Registration & Welcome Reception

Delegate registration will take place in the award winning Glucksman Gallery where Delegates will enjoy drinks and canapés while soaking up the atmosphere of a renowned local String Quartet. Delegates can avail of the complimentary gallery tours where an ocean themed exhibit will be on display.

Campus tours will also run periodically from the gallery where Delegates can bask in the historic beauty of the Sunday Times 2017 University of the year.

Monday 28th August 2017

08:00-09:00 EWTEC Registration will commence prior to opening speeches.

09:00-10:00 Plenary Opening Session with Chairperson Tony Lewis, Cork Lord Mayor Tony Fitzgerald, UCC President Patrick G. O’Shea and Minister for DCCAE Denis Naughten.

10:05-10:45 Tea & coffee will be served daily in Áras na Mac Léinn where Posters and Exhibitions will be on display.

Wave Energy Scotland: Progress and Plans

Now in its third year of existence, the WES programme is starting to yield results and this event will showcase developments  in our current  programmes. We will also share detail of future activities including international collaborations. US Department of Energy, Water Power Technology Office (WPTO)

The US Department of Energy is hosting a discussion on early adopter markets for marine renewables and invites EWTEC conference attendees to participate in a 90 minute discussion on these markets, on the road to wide-spread development of utility scale MRE. Wave and tidal devices have the potential to provide power to a number of end markets that are characterized by high cost, high value energy needs. In particular, this discussion should interest device and project developers, as well as supply chain participants. 20:00-00:00 The evening’s festivities will begin in Rearden’s bar where Delegates will be served canapés and drinks while a local Cork band entertains them from The Hidden Attic. To finish off the evening Delegates will be move into Havana Brown’s where ‘Comhaltas’, a traditional Irish band, will be ready and waiting to provide Delegates with a taste of Irish nightlife.

Exceedence will Host the EWTEC Band, A Band not yet formed and composed entirely of willing EWTEC attendees.

If you have talent or bravery and want to play in the band or sing then come along to Rearden’s on the 28th.

We will MC an open mic session and will have a range of instruments and musicians available to play. We have promises from some well knowns in the wave and tidal sector, Chris O’Donoghue , Tom Denniss, Cuan Boake, Richard Yemm, Cameron Johnstone, George Foley, Andrew Parish and Prof John Ringwood BUT we have room for plenty more. We will see you there.

Currently data are wide spread and not easily accessible. The US Department of Energy and their national laboratories invite you to discuss the needs and capabilities for data accessibility.

The CCP- WSI Blind Test Workshop – Series 2: Introductory Event

To provide a better understand of the validity and required model fidelity when simulating WSI problems; the CCP-WSI Blind Test Workshops bring together the WSI community to test their codes against specific WSI problems. 20:00-00:00 Upon arriving at the Cork City Hall, Delegates will be met with music and a drinks reception where they will be given the chance to mingle with fellow Delegates. From there they will be moved into the expansive dining area where they will be served a 4 course meal. ‘Pulses of Tradition’ will provide a live performance of Irish music, song and dance celebrating traditional music in Cork City and will teach Delegates the intricacies of Irish dance.

Workshop on Social and Economic Risks and Benefits of MRE Development –
Ocean Energy System/Annex IV

OES-Annex IV and ORJIP are hosting a workshop at EWTEC on August 31st on “Exploring the State of Understanding and Practice used to Assess Social and Economic Risks and Benefits of Marine Renewable Energy Development.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together regulators, stakeholders, industry, and researchers to examine frameworks and practical aspect for collecting data that define social and economic risks and benefits of marine renewable energy.

14:00 Technical Visit to Beaufort Building and National Maritime College of Ireland

Ringaskiddy is home to Ireland’s world class MaREI Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy, Lir National Ocean Test Facility and the National Maritime College of Ireland. Join us on the 31st of August for:

  • An introduction to our researchers at the cutting edge of offshore renewable energy
  • A visit to Europe’s newest Test Facility, the state of the art, Lir National Ocean Test Facility
  • A tour of one of the largest simulation suites in Europe, comprising a 360° and a 270° Full Mission Bridge Kongsberg simulator at the NMCI

The visit will be followed by a networking event where you will get a further opportunity to meet the experts located in the MaREI Centre.

All Day Event – International Symposium on “Novel Composite Materials and Processes for Marine Renewable Energy”, Cork, Ireland, September 1st 2017

A one day International Symposium will be held in Cork, Ireland on September 1st, 2017 on the topic of ‘Novel Composite Materials and Processes for Marine Renewable Energy’.  The symposium is being organised by the consortium behind the EU FP7 Marie Curie IAPP project MARINCOMP, led by University College Cork and the University of Edinburgh, and involving partners University of Ulster; Toray Carbon Fibers Europe, ÉireComposites, Suzlon Energy and Scotrenewables Tidal Power.
